The Paint Tin
Art Studio

After a decade as a painter , Helena discovered Encaustic and has been seduced ever since by its luminosity, seductive fluidity and sheer unpredictability.
She creates artworks in 'The Paint Tin Art Studio' on her property in Upper Moutere near Nelson , NZ
The word Encaustic comes from the Greek word "Encaustikos " meaning to "Burn In "
Encaustic is a very old art medium, dating back over 2000 years, it was used to caulk the ships of the Nile in Ancient Egypt.
Beeswax Pellets and Damar resin ( from a palm tree ) are melted together to create a fluid painting medium which has to have each layer fused by heat to the one laid down previously, giving rise to artworks with depth and at times a sculptural quality.
If you are interested in purchasing any of the artworks for sale on this site , please fill in the contact form on the contact page.
